“What would you think if I sang out of tune? Would you stand up and walk out on me?” goes the song by the Beatles, “Oh, I get by with a little help from my friends.” Operation Blankets of Love (OBOL), an animal charity, is singing that tune, and their “friends” are the Australian-UK based Global Onslaught (Go). Go is a worldwide, music management promotion company of signed and unsigned independent artists. GO plans to collect financial donations, along with pet supplies at the USA launch-tour and celebrity red carpet event this Saturday, July 28, 2012. The private mansion benefit, featuring live bands such as October Rage, Overspill and Annie Lovell is being hosted by Executive Producer Gregory T. Simmons, “Aspen the Series – Comedy TV

We get calls from every day from one of 60 animal shelters needing blankets, cat food, dog food, portable shelters and pet supplies,” said Eileen Smulson, founder of the non profit Operation Blankets of Love, which is dedicated to saving homeless animals’ lives. Eileen and Brad Smulson, her husband, together operate the seven-day-a-week animal rescue charity out of their home and garage. “The biggest cost for us is gasoline, and we need another van,” he said. Smulson, who also works part time as a cameraman and videographer shooting commercials, uses one an old van, which doubles as production equipment vehicle one day, and a pickup and delivery van the next day. “We literally are driving 600 miles per week to answer calls of shelters in desperate need of pet supplies,” the Smulson said. He also noted that, anyone who donates a cargo van will be allowed to blast both sides of the vehicle with its company logo and receive tons of highway exposure. OBOL has received endorsements from the national organizations such as Best Friends and National Assn. of Federal Veternarians.

Recently, in a Facebook contest, Toyota awarded OBOL a new van in a 100 day car giveaway for receiving the most votes Online. However, the vehicle will not be delivered until the year’s end. Smulson, who never owned a dog, rescued “Ginger”, a mixed variety “mutt”, which was found wondering on the freeway.

After discovering animals were more calm and adoptable lying on a blanket in shelters, smulson started collecting blankets. Hundreds turn into thousands, hundreds of thousands of blankets and eventually filling up their garage with pet supplies, but only as fast as “SOS shelter calls” for deliveries would start reducing collection. “Shelter calls for dog, cat and bird supplies have quadrupled over the years, and with only one van, some calls go unanswered for day, “said Smulson. You can donate Online at the OBOL website (http://www.operationblanketsoflove.org) or on Facebook.com (http://www.facebook.com/OperationBlanketsOfLove).
