LOS ANGELES, CA – Chad Smith’s Bombastic Meatbats will be performing on Saturday, May 22, 5pm, at John Anson Ford Amphitheatre in Hollywood, CA, as part of world-famous The Baked Potato Jazz Club’s 40th Anniversary Jazz Festival featuring many of the world’s greatest musicians.

Chad Smith’s Bombastic Meatbats creates a cutting edge, sonic experience with a plethora of influences, fusing together styles as diverse as old school funk, punk, and 70’s R&B.  The Meatbats continue to gain momentum following their critically acclaimed iTunes Top 10 Jazz album debut, “Meet The Meatbats.”  As Artist Direct says, “Instantly, you know it’s going to be a good time,” and Rolling Stone comments, “There is a heavy 70’s fusion vibe (a la vintage ‘Return To Forever’).”

The Bombastic Meatbats were conceptualized by GRAMMY®-award winning drummer Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Chickenfoot), keyboardist Ed Roth (Sophie B. Hawkins, Coolio), guitarist Jeff Kollman (Jill Scott, Glenn Hughes), and bassist Kevin Chown (George Benson, Ted Nugent). “We look forward to playing the 40th anniversary show made possible by Don and Justin Randi at The Baked Potato,” noted Chad Smith. “We appreciate the contributions that they have made to the music community over the years.”

Like Chad Smith’s Bombastic Meatbats, the festival will showcase many other artists that got their start at The Baked Potato. The phenomenal festival line-up also includes performances by Larry Carlton, Yellowjackets, Steve Lukather, Lee Ritenour, The Jazz Ministry, The Michael Landau Group, Don Randi (owner of The Baked Potato) and his band Quest, Patrice Rushen, Ernie Watts, John Daversa Big Band, The Baked Potato All Stars, O.H.M, Scott Henderson Trio, Fusion masters Holdsworth/Pasqua/Haslip/Novak, and Mitch Forman & The B.P. All Stars.

Don Randi, composer/musician and original member of the famous “Wrecking Crew” opened the historical landmark, The Baked Potato Jazz Club, in 1970. His goal was to provide a place where his fellow musicians and he could play the music they loved after a long day of working around town in recording sessions. Over the years, it became their place to unwind and hang out, along with music lovers who enjoy world-class live music.

In 1990, Don’s son, Justin Randi, took the reigns of The Baked Potato and furthered the venue’s dedication for being a place where new musical ideas, dreams, creativity, and individuality could be encouraged to blossom. With music ranging from jazz to rock, to contemporary fusion, The Baked Potato has a reputation of being a hidden, intimate setting for big-name artists to jam when they are in town. “We play the Baked Potato whenever we can,” noted Bombastic Meatbat, Ed Roth. “It’s the kind of place where you can immediately feel the energy and directly connect with the fans.”

Other past Baked Potato alumni include GRAMMY®-award winning musicians Larry Carlton, Yellowjackets, Al Jarreau, Michael Landau and Steve Lukather, as well as jazz legends Virgil Donati, Dennis Chambers, Simon Philips, Terry Bozzio, Dave Weckl, Bunny Brunnel, Derek Sherinian, Mike Keneally and Allan Holdsworth.

The 40th Anniversary festival doors open at 1pm on Saturday, May 22nd, and the show is from 2pm to 11pm on both Saturday and Sunday.  John Anson Ford Amphitheatre is located at 2580 Cahuenga Blvd., Hollywood, CA 90068.  For ticket information, call the box office at 323-461-3673 or visit
